O-rings are one of the most common seals used in machine design because they are inexpensive, easy to make, reliable, and have simple mounting requirements. They have huge applications in automotive.
They are manufactured in a very large scale which comes to approximately 50 lakhs per month. The size of the o-ring varies from 3mm to 180mm. The quality of the o-ring/oil seal is of critical importance.
The most defects that occurs with o-rings are the following
- Dimensional Mismatch
- Inner and Outer flashes
- Excess material
- Foreign Material
- Wedges and Scratches
- Dents and Cracks
- Short mould
Most of the companies in India are inspecting the o-rings for above defects using manual labour. The manual labour is extremely risky due to the sheer quantity, eye fatigue and slow speed. This results in faulty o-rings in the consignment and further rejection from the customer end. The machines that are available from abroad are very costly and in the range of 60 lakhs to 1 crore
Castalia research labs came up with ingenuously developed o-ring inspection machine which is the result of one year of continuous research and iterations. Our machine is capable of detecting all the above defects within a speed of 300 parts/min for o-rings of the range 3mm to 20mm. We have two machines to span the radius range of 3mm to 80mm. One machines for 3mm to 40 mm and another for 40mm to 80mm. For higher ranges the material handling is under development.
